Why did you become a counsellor?
I have been asked this question many times and the answer is always the same, I want to help people who are going through difficult times in their lives. BUT, in reality that is not the complete answer.
Imagine you have a lovely meal in a restaurant, you don't suddenly decide to become a chef. Likewise, you buy an outfit that makes you look and feel good you don't decide to become a fashion designer, but often people who have experienced the benefit of positive change in their own life through counselling are motivated to be able to offer the same help to others. This was one of the reasons I became a Counsellor, and it increased mydetermination to succeed because I understood that there is no shame in seeking counselling and in fact it can completely turn your life around. This is the reason the Counsellor is often referred to as 'The Wounded Healer'.
